  • The Breakdown of Your Grade

There are SIX different components that make up the overall grade:
    • 40% of grade: Daily Assignments and Labs
    • 25% of grade: Unit Tests
    • 10% of grade: Semester Projects
    • 10% of grade: Quizzes and Notebook Checks
    • 10% of grade: Promptness and participation.
    • 5% of grade: Homework assignments.
    • *A deduction of 1% of a student’s grade will occur for each unexcused tardy. After 10 unexcused tardies, the student will have forfeited a letter grade!

Please keep in mind that students can only have 18 unexcused absences before Mr. Crow is required, by law, to fail that student.

    How the Grading Scale Works:

Let's say you make the following grades:

    Daily Assignments & Labs: 90, 90, 100, 50, 100Unit Tests: 87, 98, 70Semester Project: 85Quizzes and Notbook Checks: 70, 60, 90, 60Promptness in Class: 3 unexcused tardiesHomework Assignments: 95, 80, 70

To calculate your grade, we first take the average of each section:

    Daily Assignments: 90 + 90 + 100 + 50 + 100 = 430/5 = 86Unit Tests: 87 + 98 + 70 = 255/3 = 85Semester Project: 85 = 85/1 = 85Quizzes: 70 + 60 + 90 + 60 = 280/4 = 70Promptness in Class: 10 - 3 = 7Homework Assignments: 95 + 80 + 70 = 250/3 = 83

Now, you have to multiply each section by the weighted percentage:

    Daily Assignments (40%) .40 * 86 = 34.4
    Unit Tests (25%) .25 * 85 = 21.25
    Semester Project (10%) .10 * 85 = 8.5
    Quizzes (10%) .10 * 70 = 7
    Promptness (10%) 7
    Homework (5%) .05 * 83 = 4.15

Add the weighted percentiles from each section to find your grade:

    34.4% + 21.25% + 8.5% + 7% + 7% + 4.15% = 82.3%.
Your grade in the class would be an 82, a low C.

    Scale:

    A - 100% - 95%B - 94% - 88%C - 87% - 81%D - 80% - 75%F - below 75%

    Late Work and Absences

If students are absent, it is THEIR responsibility to find out what work they missed. They must make the initiative to talk with Mr. Crow about missed work. More than likely, the assignment will be posted on this website, and students can begin working on it.

With the exception for students that have EXCUSED absences, work will be considered late if it is not turned in on time. Late assignments will be penalized by deducting points. Students will be given a strict time window where late work will be accepted.

Students accumulating unexcused absences amounting to 10% of the number of days in a marking period cannot receive higher than a B. Students that accumulate unexcused absences amounting to 20% of the days (18 days) in a semester will fail.

    Tardiness

Students should be in their seat when the bell rings. Tardiness not only hurts a student's grade; the penalty for 5 unexcused tardies is a 1-hour detention.
